Underground Recycling
Thanks to funding from the HAT, we are finally able to announce the opening of Birminghams first underground recycling station here in Castle Vale.
A literally ground breaking solution to community recycling, the recycling station looks like a fairly ordinary bin with openings for different types of rubbish and compared to the big recycling skips it doesn't look like it can hold much. However like Dr Whos' TARDIS it is actually bigger on the inside, reaching 4 meters underground it has plenty of room without being an eyesore like a skip.
The bins were officially opened on the 19th of February by one of the directors of Birmingham City Football club along with local resident Eric Shaw. The ceremony included a demonstration of how the bin is lifted out of the ground by a special lorry so that it can be emptied.
There are plans for a further 3 recycling stations in the area and plans are underway to give all residents collection bags for doorstep paper recycling.
